A prominent Black Moon Lilith in the natal chart is either having a conjunction to another planet or an angular Lilith. Having a prominent Black Moon Lilith in the natal chart usually means an intense personality expressed via a strong character. Prominent Liliths are developed in personality from a young age and can sometimes indicate early developmental disruptions within our nurturing environment. The development of personality according to Developmental Psychology occurs largely between birth and seven years of age. In many cases – the Black Moon Lilith part of personality relates to a much younger inner self.

How can a child be Lilithy?

A strongly placed astrological Lilith can manifest in personality through different ways. The Object Constancy (Mahler) developmental stage for example – is where the young toddler rips one of her dolls apart while she meticulously cares for another doll. The child is expressing the good and less than good aspects of her early nurturing experiences. This behaviour is quite healthy and over time the infant integrates these black and white psychological challenges into personality. Sometimes this kind of differentiation is not completed in the development of personality and the person develops a strong character expression in order to compensate.

Perhaps developmental Lilith emerges during this early ”Constancy” stage more so than any other stage of development.

When the infant cannot resolve the psychological conflict between their “good and less than good nurturing” the psyche becomes somewhat inflexible. The child can develop an impasse where life is either all rotten or all wonderful. There can be few grey areas within such black and white beliefs. Sibling rivalry and jealousy issues can also be a product of this early stage in life.

When the child endures traumatic experiences – survival can depend on the part of personality which “takes charge” of the psyche. Enter the “prominent Lilith” and the Black Moon part of personality.

In essence during such a developmental crisis there is a part of personality that splits away from the impasse in order to survive. The split off part of personality remains functional albeit hidden from the persons awareness. Invariably this part of personality can have a “louder voice” than the black and white impasse dynamic. It may also reflect the “bad” nurturing object for the child, however not in all cases. Black Moon Lilith is not all “black” in my view. She is a highly creative energy albeit, confusing.

So the young child can take on aspects of mothers or grand mothers inflexible parenting style within the psyche. Have you ever heard a four year child old utter reprimands and ultimatums like a bossy parent does? The child is mimicking his or her own experience of that restrictive parent voice. The formation of Lilith is via this kind of verbal transference however Lilith seems to form in personality during the non verbal stages of development too.

In the normal transference process in personality development, aspects of our role models personality are injuncted and introjected as parts of our own personality. The Black Moon Lilith or split off part remains remotely connected however separate to these introjected parts. Lilith emerges in personality expression unconsciously – as counter transference to this system. “She” may take the form of the very prejudiced parent that abused her. She may take on an inflexible form – resistant to anything remotely sounding like grandmas authority. Lilith is a wild fire kind of aspect in personality she takes control of chaos in a manner which is contrary to the rest of the psyche.

When Saturn is conjunct Lilith in the natal chart, the “baby” Lilith within – the infant or adolescent can sound very much like the matriarchal Lilith.

Someone must keep order in the chaos

Saturn represents the authoritative and controlling part of personality. The firm parent or prejudiced parent become a part of the  intra psychic dynamics. Saturn allows a framework for managing ones inner psychic structures in relation to the environment. Saturn is not always such a bleak part of personality however when Saturn and Lilith are together in the chart ones unconscious and “darker” sides can develop a mean Matriarchal streak.

Saturn and Lilith seek out ways to have control. The matriarch requires her young charges to experience her own sense of authority. In real life the Saturn-Lilith person can be a carer of disabled or aged people. The Saturn Lilith person may need to form a dependant relationship with a victim like person. One must appreciate that Saturn/Lilith is not wholly the carer in relationships however an abuser within that relationship too.

The Saturn Lilith can provide a form of structure and chaos.

1. Internal self psychological structure in the case of the early impasse – the persons un integrated developmental issues are kept in check by via Lilith and Saturn’s authority over internal and external systems. The person wears themselves out daily by organising and being in control. The person can develop prejudiced beliefs and blames others for problems.

2. Counter Transference in relationships where – even though a person is the carer and in charge of another persons chaos, the Saturn Lilith part of the carer’s personality is potentially abusive. The Matriarch becomes frustrated and angry enough to find corrupt outlets to express a darker self. Here the unresolved impasse during the object constancy stage is unleashed.

The Matriarchal Lilith can be a complicated process of maintaining dignity in contrast to an abusive counter transference process.

Stockholm-syndrome

The Saturn – Lilith type of abuser encompasses a captive style of relationship. After abusing the dependant person in a surreptitious manner the Saturn Lilith person will then do something nice for the abused person. The dependant person rationalizes the abusers behaviour for their own survival needs. With a similar profile as the Stockholm Syndrome the Saturn Lilith person needs to have a captive or dependant person to manage and express their deeply embedded psychological impasse from earlier in life.

It seems that Murdoch has a sixth sense and is already making  trans-formative changes coming his way next month. PLuto will be crossing Murdoch’s ascendant on the 5th of February 2009. Changing his hair colour will be merely  a touch compared to the heavy-handed trans-formative pressure that Pluto represents in the cycles of Astrology.

On the 8th of February Rupert Murdoch’s philanthropist mother Dame Elisabeth Murdoch turns one hundred years old. It is certainly a busy Astrological time for Rupert Murdoch – having the planets Saturn and Uranus transiting his ninth house ruler – the Sun while Pluto crosses his ascendant.

At a time where global financial institutions and world leaders are searching for economical direction and innovation -  it seems that Rupert Murdoch has the last laugh. The Sun in the chart represents the idea of ones identity – the values and ideas incorporated into personality from our early role models.

Murdoch’s natal Sun represents his belief system – his religiosity and propensity to higher learning in life.  Recently Murdoch has released broadsides to the Australian Minister of Education claiming the Australian Education system is a complete shambles.

The ninth house ruler also represents a number of other astrological significators when analysing a chart. The ninth house is the persons Lawyer or astrologer – priest or relative. Psychologically speaking the ninth house mainly refers to ones attitude and belief system in life.

In my astrological view, Murdoch will relish the auspicious turning of age by his Mother next month. This is an event that will deeply affect Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch is then pressurised to change his life by seeking  innovating solutions.

In my mind the Astrology transits of Saturn and Uranus to Murdoch’s natal Sun represent a time involving  the “clearing out the cupboard”. In an extraordinary move – I believe that Rupert will surprise international economic experts leaving them out of step in the field. “It turned me into a right monster it did”

It seems that over the centuries, humans have developed beliefs about the effects of the Full Moon. Less seriously and in recent times perhaps, people joke about the Full Moon rising. That we “better watch out” or “its going to be crazy tonight”. Another example of our developmental relationship to the “Moon Object” is through nursery rhymes.

Hey diddle diddle,
The Cat and the fiddle,
The Cow jumped over the moon,
The little Dog laughed to see such sport,
And the Dish ran away with the Spoon

I could never really understand the Dish and the Spoon bit in this nursery rhyme but my point is that we form a relationship to the Moon by its repeated use in art, religion and science. One would describe the relationship in the above story as somewhat neurotic or dysfunctional. It is nonsensical and suggests that crazy stuff happens during the full moon.

Do people become more self - activated or reactive at the Full Moon? I believe so because I have seen it happen. Astrology can show potential triggers and effect,  however one could argue that instinctively, we believe that crazy stuff will happen. We have convinced ourselves it does because of our long term relationship with the full moon. Ancient myths, nursery rhymes, rituals, science and many other stories have made it so.

In the Object Relations theory - part of the relationship to the Moon we are perhaps working to her clockwork and we instinctively know when to go “crazy” because that is what our relationship to her means. She gets our attention when she is full and we attempt to fill her silent expectations by self actuating around full moon.

The Full Moon comes around once per month. It is a timely reminder of the cycles of nature and the reality in such an embedded ‘objects’ in our culture. In astrology the Moon is seen as a trigger for planets in the natal chart and transiting aspects. Those of us not interested in astrology, seem to accept that there is a connection to the Full Moon’s effect from anecdotal and experiential evidence . Whether the full moon effects (affects) us because of its tidal pull, or through its astrological significance or that it’s a psychological object  developed over time through story telling; can we really blame her for our behaviours and decisions during the full moon period?.

There is a Full Moon tomorrow (18th April 2011) . If there ever was a time to blame the full moon it is this week. The Full Moon period is marked with planetary aspects Mars and Mercury opposite Saturn . Saturn is about “regulation” and Mercury/Mars represents rapid thoughts and jumping into fray without thought for values and other boundaries. If there have been any relationship issues bottled up lately, then perhaps the Full Moon can help release them?

The “Cathartic Moon” (Full Moon) is calling for some regulation at this time. The Full Moon may be helpful in pointing out boundaries and other lines in the sand “not to cross”.

The Volcano in Iceland has disrupted thousands of international flights and stranded a great many people. The cost to various airlines and related industries is nearing $10 billion according to the above information.

Earthquakes are not unusual for this time of year however in the relative scheme of Saturn Uranus there have been some significant shifts in the earth’s crust of late. The Tibetan earthquake a few weeks ago claimed thousands of lives.

In my local area there was an earthquake that rocked Kalgoorlie destroying several buildings. Some experts have said that the significant excavations in the “Golden Mile” have contributed to this seismic disturbance.

I know there are many more political and social unrest stories that could qualify the aspect of Saturn Uranus however it is not my purpose to bombard you with news items nor is my goal to prove the workings of astrology. As you may know I am particularly interested in how global , social – community circumstances affect us on individual levels.

Some people may think there is a lot of news items at the moment and that the world seems busier than normal? The volcanic ash disaster and subsequent international travel disruptions would have touched most people. I think it would be safe to say that we all know of someone who was/is caught up in this natural disaster.

Nature runs its own course it seems. In these type of events humans can appreciate their “insignificance” on earth. Scientists, presidents and religious leaders can do nothing to rectify such inconveniences and instead we have to adjust.

The same can be said about social and political reform. Perhaps in our rebellion and rioting we realise that People Power is a great force for change. That individuals can make a difference in the community by joining together in opposition.

With the shame and disruption of public scandal we can also achieve a kind of social justice. People dig their own graves, they self destruct all by themselves. As individuals however, we can view these public scandals like “executions”. We may be surprised and bewildered by such scandal but  it has nothing to do with us. The shame is upon someone elses head  and  with quiet reflection we can evaluate who “we are” versus and who “we are not”.

Other people become familiar with the way different elements of their social dynamics work because that helps to define their own role in relation to others. When the patterns of one person change there are both positive and negative “change reactions” by others.

Theoretically when someone forms a new relationship, becomes successful or wealthy their life changes for the better but is everybody happy about changing too?

` Changing involves more than one thinks.

Late last year Saturn and PLuto synchronised together when Saturn entered Libra. It seems that these two heavy weights have impeccable timing lately. Around the seventh of April 2010 Saturn changes sign by moving backwards into Virgo while Pluto turns retrograde in Capricorn right at the same time.

When the politically motivated planets of Saturn and Pluto change their bearings it would be fair to say that the other planets will also dynamically change to each other. In my view the planetary shift by Pluto and Saturn this month represents a measure of change within our communities and individual lives.

Depending on which side of “change” that you find yourself, the challenges of “integrating with the new” presents a few problems. Not everyone enjoys change in the work place or at home. The astrology reflects potential political moves or other interactions designed to keep things the way they are.

This means that there are either attempts at tarnishing ones success or that others are ‘forced’ to accept the changes at hand. Integration seems like a good solution however unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world. A friend of mine has a simple and effective statement for these situations  “deal with it”!

I can remember even further back about twelve years ago when I was depressingly going through solar returns and progressions trying to find promising times in my life. I only seemed to depress myself further when I realised the best astrological times were a long way away.

In the Right Lane

The last twelve years of my life haven’t been all that terrible. Quite the contrary in fact, however it is possible to feel “emptiness” no matter how well life seems to be travelling. Waiting for the one “good thing”, hoping that a magical thing which will suddenly dispel ones bleaker perspectives in life only serves to imprison one from living the visions in the present.

The present time is where ones dreams and visions are constantly materializing from distant times.

Recently there have been positive changes in my life which at times have felt unreal and overwhelming. Imagine wakening from say – chronic fatigue to find the symptoms gone. It wouldn’t feel right that the chains one has come to bear over the years have suddenly vanished.

Links to the Future

Perhaps my metaphorical “chains” are about an ever persisting idea that my rewards have failed to “quench”? Astrologically I have arrived at some progressions and returns that I may have salivated over some twelve years ago. I do not feel disappointed at the moment. Even if I did have “chronic illness” it wouldn’t matter because the Cosmic Rewards are more than enough now.

Last year I discussed astrology with my GP (Doctor). He asked me “where will you be in six months, what does the astrology say”?

I knew that my progressed Sun would be on my ascendant and progressed Mercury would turn direct. My solar return also showed the Sun on the ascendant and progressed Jupiter would turn direct in March 2010. I told him that I would be travelling around working with groups or doing workshops etc. I told him that my life would experience a kind of karmic shift like a new job and other success. I told him that no matter what was happening in six months that my life would be fulfilling.

I really am living that dream now.

The red planet is not really standing still however its apparent lack of motion becomes rather significant to some astrologers. The Blue Planet

When a planet is “stationary” it means that its direction as observed from Earth is changing. The planet has reached its peak in movement one direction and seems to pause before changing directions. When we think about a stone being thrown up into the sky against the forces of gravity, the stone reaches a peak point where gravity becomes greater than the force in which the stone has been thrown with. The stone pauses at the peak point and then falls to earth in its usual way.

For a moment the Stone is weightless and doesnt have an up or downward motion and instead seems to float in the sky. For one moment the stone is not a stone in relation to gravity!

Zero Gravity is a different experience

What does the analogy of weightlessness and the stone cast into the air mean for the stationary planet Mars? As astrologers we observe nature and carry out meta-research for interpreting valuable symbolic meanings. But do we go too far? Do we as astrologers and “social cosmic scientists” get caught up in the sensationalism and hype and misinterpret the symbols?

Inertia

At the point where an object is about to change its direction the forces are equal and the nature of the object experiences a change of state. Perhaps for a short while the object works differently. It’s detached from its usual patterns or behaviour. I like this analogy in reference to human psychology where at the precise period of “stillness”, all bets are off and a there is potential to experience a different kind of “state”.

Stationary Mars in a symbolic way is without his usual behaviours and belief systems allowing a temporary change of state. With stationary Mars there is little pull or push of our personal Mars behavioural definitions. We have a window where we can experience a different kind of  “activity, motivation, anger, aggression or assertiveness” etc. If we do not use mars energy that well usually then perhaps the stationary period is a time to practice it more?

The process of my recent emotional turning point has taken some years. The trigger brought about by the generosity and recognitions from others. I experienced a karmic shifting that brought a tear to my eye after stubborn misgivings about my worthiness were suddenly dispelled.

Beggars Belief

Some people make change through therapy and spiritual pursuits. Some experience change of belief systems through career and relationship success. In my experience however its the profound and emotional turning points which become permanent developments.

I am not a stranger to making psychological redecisions in therapy however my current turning point came as progressed Mercury went direct in motion last week.

When the faster moving progressed planets change direction (motion) it is time for a karmic shift. About twenty-five years ago Mercury in my progressed chart went retrograde heralding a long introspective and karmic journey. There were some serious and difficult times back then.

It’s about time, it’s about space and the human race

When looking for turning points in the natal chart one cannot go past the progressed planets changing signs or directions. Progressed planets arriving on angles and conjunct planets are also meaningful turning points. If the solar return and other major transits or solar arc directions are also emphasised during these turning points, then one has a karmic shift-fest on their hands!

Progressed planets turning retrograde in early adult life may not seem helpful at the time however these necessary experiences do mature with benefit. It may take years and seem a long way off but when arriving at the planetary turning point one can be sure that change is imminent.

On other levels of cyclic change, transiting Mars will go direct in motion this week bringing the end to an introspective and internalizing period. The burdensome reassessment made during this retrograde period will begin to lift. There are opportunities to make redecisions  and become assertive in relationships. Its time to drop being angry with self. Its time to drop guiltly feelings that have troubled you. Its time to become responsive in life after such a long hiatus.
